If you are leaving CodeRabbit, the commercial fork is Sourcery versus GitHub Copilot. Sourcery wins for Python-heavy teams that want opinionated refactor suggestions, not just a comment on the PR. Copilot wins when the team already has GitHub seats and wants the lowest-friction review path—no second vendor, no extra review product. Sourcery is the right commercial replacement when the pain is Python quality: refactors that make the diff smaller and the next change safer. It sits in the IDE and in GitHub; the value is the suggestion, not a generic “looks good.” Teams that live in Python and already fight style-and-structure debt get more from Sourcery than from Copilot’s broader, less opinionated review. Copilot is the right commercial replacement when onboarding cost dominates: GitHub-native teams, mixed languages, and a desire for one assistant that writes and reviews. It is not a dedicated review system. It is the default that already exists.
Do not switch to self-hosted solely on price if the team cannot run and patch the reviewer. Kilo and PR-Agent (Qodo Merge) are credible when you need BYOK, local models, or code that cannot leave your network. They trade a commercial invoice for ops: deploy, upgrade, tune prompts, and own false-positive rate. That is a good trade for a platform team with a boundary requirement. It is a bad trade for a product team that wanted to stop paying CodeRabbit and accidentally hired an SRE job.
Do not treat any of these outputs as merge approval. Human gates stay on architecture, business logic, and security-sensitive diffs—same rule as the CodeRabbit shortlist.
What we evaluated: PR review comments, refactor suggestions (especially Python), and CI integration. Sourcery’s edge is refactor quality on Python. Copilot’s edge is time-to-first-review inside GitHub. Self-hosted options were evaluated as operational paths, not as drop-in quality winners.
This call changes if Copilot’s review quality matches Sourcery on Python refactor, or if a self-hosted option (Kilo / PR-Agent) becomes cheaper to operate than a commercial seat. Until then: Sourcery for Python-heavy commercial; Copilot for GitHub default; self-hosted only when the boundary is the constraint.
