Depends on the job
Choose Apollo for all-in-one SMB outbound at a published seat price. Choose Clay when enrichment waterfalls are the product and a sequencer is not.

Apollo is the all-in-one outbound seat: contacts, credits, and sequences. Clay is an enrichment workbench: a table, waterfalls, and two meters (actions and data credits). Chat-only drafting is a third page — Apollo vs ChatGPT or Clay vs ChatGPT.

On apollo.io/pricing, with annual billing selected: Free is $0, Basic is $49 per seat per month, Professional is $79 per seat per month, and Organization is $119 per seat per month with a 3-seat minimum. Annual paid plans grant credits up front for the year: 30,000 on Basic, 48,000 on Professional, and 72,000 on Organization. With monthly billing selected, Basic is $65 per seat per month (2,500 credits) and Professional is $99 per seat per month (4,000 credits). The monthly view also showed Organization at $149 beside an Annual Only label, so confirm that seat at checkout if you are not paying annually. Free on the monthly view is 75 credits per seat per month.
On clay.com/pricing, Free is $0 and includes 6,000 actions a year and 1,200 data credits a year. Launch shows $167/month, starting at 180,000 actions a year and 30,000 data credits a year. Growth shows $446/month, starting at 480,000 actions a year and 72,000 data credits a year. Enterprise is custom. The page has an annual toggle marked save 10%. In this check the dollar figures on the cards did not change when that toggle moved, so treat $167 and $446 as the printed card prices and confirm the annual invoice before you assume the discount is already inside them. Actions and data credits are different pools.
Which bill you are actually choosing
Apollo Basic at $49 per seat per month, billed annually, is a sequenced outbound system. Clay Launch at $167/month is the start of a workbench, and it does not replace the need for a place to send the sequence. If the team is cost-sensitive and the job is “find people and email them,” start with Apollo. If the job is “waterfall six providers, then hand a row off,” Clay is the tool, and a sequencer can stay elsewhere.
A visual automation such as Make is a honest split only for the handoff: moving a row, posting to a CRM, or branching a scenario. It is not an enrichment workbench and it is not a contact database. Self-host workflow control is a different shortlist.
