What we evaluated
Evaluation criteria: Visual app-step canvas, Code-heavy workflows you host, A run billed as one credit. Conclusions are based on primary documentation, product evidence, and workflow fit — not hands-on benchmark runs unless noted. 5 primary sources checked.
This page is for people who already have Pipedream Workflows and need somewhere to move them. Make is the primary pick when the workflow is a visual sequence of app steps. n8n self-hosted and Windmill are the code-heavy picks. Activepieces is the pick when a run should be one credit. Pipedream Workflows is not on the shortlist as a product a new buyer starts.
Shutdown notice checked 17 October 2026. Pipedream’s workflow docs say Workflows and String shut down on 31 March 2027. Workflows are in maintenance mode. Existing workflows keep running through that date. Pipedream is no longer accepting signups or subscriptions, and it will not ship new Workflows features. Subscriptions stay active until 31 March 2027, then cancel with a prorated refund. All Workflows data, including the credentials and OAuth tokens for connected accounts, is permanently deleted by 30 April 2027. Connect, MCP servers, and the API proxy are not affected. Only Workflows data is deleted. Connect settings and credentials stay.
Shutdown timeline
- 17 October 2026, the date this page was checked. Workflows are in maintenance mode. No new signups. No new subscriptions. No new Workflows features. Workflows you already have keep running.
- 31 March 2027. Workflows and String shut down. Existing workflows stop. Subscriptions cancel, and Pipedream issues a prorated refund.
- 30 April 2027. Workflows data is permanently deleted, including connected-account credentials and OAuth tokens.
Export and migration checklist
- Export the structure of each workflow as JSON, one project at a time. Pipedream’s docs say they built that export tool for the transition. The export is the workflow structure. It is not a one-click import into Make, n8n, Windmill, or Activepieces.
- List the workflows that are still running, and the connected accounts each one uses, before 31 March 2027.
- Rebuild those steps on the destination you pick below. Reconnect each account there. Do not assume the exported JSON carries a live credential.
- Disconnect Pipedream connected accounts from the dashboard, or delete the account from settings, if you want Workflows data gone before the deletion date.
- Leave Connect, MCP, and the API proxy alone if you use them. The same docs say those products stay supported and their credentials are not part of the deletion.
- Monthly subscribers can cancel from account settings. Annual subscribers contact Pipedream support for an early cancellation and a prorated refund. If you do nothing, the subscription stays until 31 March 2027 and then cancels with a prorated refund.
