What we evaluated

Evaluation criteria: Hosted builder versus managed canvas, Credit per run versus credit per step, What you give up by not self-hosting. Conclusions are based on primary documentation, product evidence, and workflow fit — not hands-on benchmark runs unless noted. 5 primary sources checked.

This page is for readers who have already ruled out self-hosting. Activepieces Cloud is the open builder, hosted. Make is the managed visual canvas. If someone on the team will run the instance, leave this page for Activepieces vs n8n or n8n vs Make.

Prices checked 9 October 2026. Activepieces pricing lists Free at 1,000 credits a month, Plus at $20/month flat for 10,000 credits and up to 5 users, and Team at $200/month flat for 50,000 credits and 25 users. Ultimate is custom. The same plans say Cloud or on-prem. Annual billing saves 2 months. The pricing FAQ says a run is one credit however many steps it has. AI steps sit on top of that: 2 credits on a fast model, 10 on a smart model, and 20 on a frontier model, unless Plus or above brings its own model keys, which drops those steps to 1 credit. Community Edition is the free self-host core. Paying is what adds access control, Agents, and support. This page is about the hosted plan, not about standing Community Edition up.

Make prices checked 18 October 2026. On Make’s pricing page, in USD at 10,000 credits a month, Core is $12/month billed annually ($16 billed monthly), Pro is $21/month billed annually ($28 billed monthly), and Teams is $38/month billed annually ($51 billed monthly). Most module actions are one credit. Free includes 1,000 credits a month. Annual billing is cheaper than paying monthly. The page says: “Under 20 employees? What we evaluated: a hosted open builder versus a managed canvas, and whether the credit is a run or a step. Activepieces won when the open product matters and a long flow should not multiply the credit. Make won when operators want the visual scenario and will not run a platform.

This call changes if Make bills the whole scenario as one credit, or if Activepieces Cloud stops being the same product you can move on-prem. Until then, follow the segment.
